Digital Experience Platform (DXP)
Digital Experience Platforms (DXPs) come in various shapes and sizes, but which one should you choose? For our clients' online platforms, we regularly use the DXPs listed below. Each DXP has its own unique features and strengths.
1. Sitecore
Sitecore offers a comprehensive suite of tools for your online platform with the Sitecore Experience Platform (XP). The Content Management System is just the beginning. Sitecore combines customer data, analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and marketing automation capabilities to deliver personalized content to your customers in real-time, across every channel.
Sitecore XP includes numerous functionalities, though we highlight a few key features below:
- Experience Editor: A WYSIWYG editor for making easy visual changes to pages.
- Sitecore Experience Accelerator (SXA): Drag-and-drop functionality for building pages, suitable for non-technical content managers.
- Marketing Automation: Automate customer journey moments and schedule manual marketing tasks.
- Optimization: Enhance every experience with simple A/B or multivariate testing.
- Campaign Creator: A step-by-step tool for creating, publishing, and obtaining insights from multichannel campaigns.
- Path Analyzer: Track visitor paths to determine what works and what doesn't in your customer journey.
- Experience Analytics: Over 80 standard reports to monitor traditional web metrics.
- Sitecore Universal Tracker: Track all interactions on online and offline channels on any device.
- Managed Cloud: A fully Sitecore-maintained platform on Azure.
- Sitecore JavaScript Services (JSS): Build your frontend in React, Angular, or Vue with this headless option.
- Third-party Integrations: Connect your online platform with Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics CRM using available connectors.
2. Kentico
Kentico is a DXP that integrates content management, digital marketing, and e-commerce tools into one platform, enabling the creation of engaging digital experiences across multiple channels.
Kentico offers functionalities comparable to Sitecore. Many features provided by Sitecore can also be found in Kentico Experience:
- Content Management: Create modern websites and reuse content across your mobile app, email campaigns, and other channels. Design stunning landing pages using a drag-and-drop page builder, maintain content consistency with flexible workflows, and translate into any language.
- Digital Marketing: Deliver personalized digital experiences and exceed your KPIs. Create smart online forms to gather detailed customer data, run effective campaigns on the web, email, and social media, and use recommendations to boost customer engagement.
- Digital Commerce: Offer a differentiated shopping experience that keeps customers coming back. Create a striking product catalog with search and filtering to help customers easily find what they're looking for. Recommend the right products, use rule-based promotions, and reach more customers with multiple languages, currencies, and payment options.
- Customer Data Platform: Capture data about your visitors and customers to gain actionable insights for creating personalized experiences. Segment audiences, identify promising leads, and ensure compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other data protection regulations.
- Automation: Keep customers engaged with automated actions. Nurture leads with drip campaigns, remind customers of abandoned carts, and notify them when it's time to reorder favorite products. Choose from templates or create custom automations with a drag-and-drop designer.
- Analytics: Make confident business decisions by understanding your customers better. Track and analyze customer journeys, clearly assess campaign performance, and optimize experiences and conversion rates with A/B testing.
3. Umbraco
Umbraco doesn't quite fit into the DXP category, but it is a highly user-friendly Content Management System. By adding powerful modules specifically developed for Umbraco, such as e-commerce or marketing suite, this platform gains a new dimension. The additional modules provide functionalities similar to those found in many DXP systems.
The core of Umbraco is the Content Management System, which allows you to create, manage, preview, and publish pages easily and intuitively. By extending Umbraco with third-party tools or extensions, it remains the centerpiece of your digital workflow. Its open architecture enables integration with your own e-commerce, CRM, email system, or any other tool you need.
4. NopCommerce
nopCommerce is not strictly a Digital Experience Platform, but rather a full-featured e-commerce platform that allows you to quickly and easily set up a comprehensive e-commerce site.
nopCommerce is suitable for small and medium-sized businesses looking to establish an online store with many built-in features such as payment provider and shipping service integration, inventory management, marketing and SEO tools, flexible product attributes, and mobile-friendly online stores.

For international companies, nopCommerce is flexible with multiple currencies, multilingual support, local tax rates, and regulation compliance, and integration with local services.
